Why You Should Be Grateful for What You Have

Officially set aside as an annual day of gratitude in
the United States, where I live, Thanksgiving Day, which is just around the
corner here, is a great day to sit down and take stock of all you have to be
grateful for. However, it's not the only day of the year you should be
grateful for what you have.
The daily practice of gratitude, being grateful or thankful for what you
have, keeps your life in its proper perspective, puts you in the correct
state of mind for getting more of what you want, and prevents you from
losing that which you already have.
Jesus said, "... unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have
abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he
hath."
The same can be said of gratitude. Those who are grateful for what they have
will be given more and will have abundance; but, from those who aren't
grateful for what they have, even that which they have will be taken away
from them.
Sounds a bit cruel, I know, but that's the way the Universe works!
Not feeling very grateful this year and/or feeling like maybe you don't have
a whole heck of a lot more to lose?
Here are a few questions to ask yourself:
1. Do you have food to eat, clothes to wear, shelter from the elements, and
a place to sleep?
You're wealthier than seventy-five percent of the world's population, right
now, today!
2. Do you have money in the bank, money in your wallet, and some extra
change?
You're among the top eight percent of the world's wealthiest people, right
now, today!
3. Did you wake up this morning more healthy than you are sick?
You're more fortunate than the three million folks out there who won't be
with us by the end of this week, right now, today!
4. Have you never experienced the unbelievable horrors of war, the mental
anguish of imprisonment, the intense physical pain of torture, or the
unspeakable feeling of starvation?
You're more fortunate than the five hundred million people around the world
who are alive and suffering from one or more of these horrendous
experiences, right now, today!
5. Are you able to read this article?
You're more fortunate than the three billion some odd people in the world
who, for one reason or another, aren't able to read it at all, right now,
today!
I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea. As the old saying goes,
"I cried because I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no feet."
Gratitude is largely a matter of perspective, isn't it?
Regardless of how much you may think your life may suck right now, there's
somebody or a whole lot of somebody's out there who'd gladly trade places
with you and be grateful for the privilege.
So, don't wait until Thanksgiving Day, or whatever its equivalent is in your
neck of the woods, makes it annual appearance to be grateful for what you
have. Adopt the attitude of gratitude and be thankful for what you have, all
you have, right now, today!
Why?
Because, "... unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have
abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he
hath."
