Sure, organization is a great way to keep your home or
office from getting cluttered. But the time you spend organizing can
actually provide a boost for your mental health, too!
How is that
possible?
When you organize, you purge your space of unnecessary
items... you know, you get rid of the "junk". As you get rid of all that
stuff, it becomes a much deeper cleaning. In fact, it can even help purify
your soul! Every time you throw something else in the "discard" pile, you're
making yourself a little bit lighter and a little bit freer - both
physically and mentally.
And, there's ancient science that backs it
up!
When you clean and de-clutter the space around you, it gets rid
of the stagnation and ushers in a flow of fresh energy. In Chinese medicine,
that energy is known as the "chi", "ki", and "qi" - or "universal life
energy". According to ancient Chinese beliefs, the more universal life
energy that's around you, the more peace, prosperity, and happiness you'll
have!
So, how can you get this peace for yourself? If it seems like
your space is so messy you simply don't know where to begin, start by
following these 4 tips:
1. Get rid of the clutter.
If you want
to really clean up your space, you have to start by getting rid of the junk.
Haven't you ever noticed you feel a little more anxious and stressed out
when the counters are completely covered and when there's stuff all over the
floor?
Go through everything that's just lying around and get rid of
the items you don't need anymore. When you see something you need, put it
away in a designated place. But don't just throw things in drawers or
closets. Clutter can agitate you even if it's hidden!
2. Get rid of
the germs - and the negative energy.
Pull out the 'ol duster, vacuum
cleaner, and mop - and get moving! After all, you can't truly be at peace
with a bunch of dirt around you! Not only are you cleaning away the visible
dirt in your space, you're also getting rid of any stagnant, negative
energy.
3. Get a good look at your new space.
Obviously,
you'll see an area that's cleaner and neater. But, as you look around, you
should also start to feel lighter and calmer. And, it's a feeling you can
experience as soon as the floors are dry!
4. Get a good routine
going.
Once your space is clean and clutter-free, there are several
things you can do on a regular basis to boost the positive energy around
you. All of these techniques will get rid of negative energy anytime you
need a pick-me-up:
- Take some dried sage and "smudge" the area. All
you have to do is light the end of a sage stick, blow out the flame, and let
the smoke waft into the air. Walk around your house with the smoldering
stick, so that smoke gets into every room.
- Light incense candles in
every room. Scent is a very powerful sense when it comes to creating peace.
If you want to feel calmer, use scents like lavender, rosemary, lemongrass,
sage, sandalwood, myrrh, frankincense, and rose.
- Boost positive
energy with meditation and visualization. Close your eyes, focus on
breathing deeply, and imagine bright, white light filling up every room of
your home. Listen carefully as it crackles with electricity. That sound you
hear is the light zapping away negative energy!
